岩手日報2012年6月22日～東北新幹線あす23日開業30年　累計輸送19億人より。以下引用。

東北新幹線は２３日、開業３０周年を迎える。１９８２年に大宮―盛岡間で発進した東北の大動脈は、２０１０年１２月に東京―新青森間の全線が開通した。今年３月までの累計輸送人員は約１９億４千万人。節目を刻んだ新幹線は、復興支援という新たな使命も日々運び続ける。暫定開業当初、上野―大宮間はリレー号が接続し、上野―盛岡間は４時間弱かかった。その後、８５年に上野駅、９１年に東京駅に乗り入れ、１０年には東京―新青森の全線約６７５キロが開業。東京―盛岡間は最速２時間２０分まで短縮された。

東北新幹線が開業したの、ニュースで見て覚えているなあ。1982年（昭和57年）の6月23日だったのだね。当時の最高時速は時速210kmで、上野-大宮間が在来線の専用列車「新幹線リレー号」を使っていたため、上野-盛岡間は4時間弱かかっていたとのこと。

その後、最高時速は時速300kmとなり、上野-盛岡間は2時間20分に。速くなったね～。

東北新幹線が起工されたのは、1971年11月28日。キャッチコピーは「ひかりは北へ」。結局、「ひかり」呼称の新幹線は東北では走らなかったけど、良いコピーだね～。
